Dear Prospective Day School Parent, Thank you for your interest in Granada Day School! The administration and staff count it a privilege to be considered in your child’s educational future. It is our desire to provide an excellent academic program in a Christ-centered environment. Much controversy and debate surfaces from time to time on the value of early childhood education and how that education should be approached. At Granada Day School we hold a “child development” approach. In keeping with the recent brain research and other studies on the development of young children, and the concepts we believe to be true to scripture, we strive to provide an environment rich in multi-sensory (use of the five senses) learning experiences and positive interaction with others. The richer the environment, the greater the learning. At Granada Day School we also stress the development of social skills: learning to get along with one another, developing self-control, sharing, developing language skills that foster good communication, encouraging creativity, developing large and small motor skills, and listening and following directions. These are skills they will need throughout life. Statistics show that if a child hasn’t developed proper social skills by age seven, they have a hard time socially throughout life. Young children learn best through active manipulation and exploration of materials with opportunities to initiate their own learning projects without fear of failure. The learning centers that are part of GDS’s philosophy promote such learning. Many of the play activities they participate in are useful in developing skills that will lay the foundation for later academic growth. The foundation for everything we teach children is based on the truths found in the Bible. Psalms 78: 3-7 says, “What we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us, we will not hide them from our children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power and the wonders He has done.” Therefore, we tell Bible stories, sing Bible songs and teach Biblical truths and values on the comprehensive level of the child. If you have any further questions, after examining the enclosed materials, please feel free to give us a call. May God bless you and guide you as you make decisions concerning your child’s educational future. Sincerely, Elizabeth C. Travis |
